The worlds richest man and richest African, Elon Musk, has bought a 9.2% of the social media site Twitter's shares making him the new majority shareholder.
The Tesla and Space X boss bought 73,486,938 shares according to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), worth $2.89 Billion (£2.2 Billion).
The news of this made Twitter's share price soar by over 27%.
Elon Musk is a regular user of the sight, with his account having 80 Million followers.
In late March, Elon Musk sent out a public poll to ask the community if the sight promoted free speech or not.
Stating: “Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe that Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle? What should be done?”
Those comments being in reference to the Cancel Culture Movement founded on the platform.
Cancel Culture is defined as: “The act of an individual or group to boycott a person, company, country, movie, show, etc.
For an act of injustice (Real or Perceived) committed or for having a different view on an issue.
Which applies for anything and anyone in the past, present, or even future”.
Elon Musk stated on The Joe Rogan Show: “The Cancel Movement is a threat to democracy, whether you're a liberal or a conservative.
Sending threats to have someone fired because they voted for a Democrat, or sending harmful threats to someone because he disagrees with someone regarding gay rights, only worsens democracy not empowering it”.
